I was a beautiful experience. I learned a lot and I became more confident with my English understanding and speaking. I met a lot of very nice people. I will recommend the Lake School. Thank you!

Application to offer homestay accommodation

Living with a friendly host in homestay accommodation is a great way to help students practise their English outside the classroom and understand British culture. We expect our hosts to offer welcoming, clean and comfortable accommodation.

Most students ask us to find homestay accommodation for them and really enjoy the experience. When students enrol, we ask what kind of accommodation they would like. We visit all new homestays and we regularly re-visit them to check that they are providing the standard of accommodation we expect.

Quite a lot of our homestays host more than one student at the same time but no more than 4 students. In this case, no students speak the same first language. We expect all hosts to offer the same standard of accommodation.

As a new accommodation provider, we will ask you to complete a questionnaire, where you can tell us anything we need to consider when placing a student.

We require all our hosts to:

  • provide half-board Monday to Friday and all meals at the weekend
  • live a local bus ride away from the school or within walking distance
  • give students a key to the house so they can be independent
  • promise never to have 2 students of the same first language unless requested
  • clean the student's room and provide a regular change of towels and bed linen
  • do some of the student's laundry or allow them to use their laundry facilities
  • offer free WiFi internet access
  • be interested in looking after students of all ages and nationalities
  • eat with the student in the evenings and encourage them to speak English

We carefully select our hosts with the students' needs in mind, so that everyone has an enjoyable experience. Before students arrive in the UK, they receive a profile of the host they are going to stay with.

When sending your host accommodation application, please be aware that:

  • Enhanced Data and Barring Service (DBS) disclosure may be required prior to you being offered a student to host
  • proof of identity will be required
  • we will ask you to complete a 'Suitability to Host Students' form and you will specifically be asked whether there is any reason why you or adult members of your household or adult visitors should not have substantial access to young people under 18
  • we will ask you to provide 2 references from long-standing colleagues, employers or friends
