Semi-Intensive General English
Improve all your language skills in our lively, interactive classes
On this course, you study every morning from 9.15 until 1pm, so you are free to take a part-time job* or follow your own personal interests in the afternoon. Some weekly cultural, social and sporting activities are also included in your course.
Between October and June you can start almost every Monday and register for a minimum of 2 weeks. Short courses are between 2 and 9 weeks. If you want to follow a Semi-Intensive General English course for 10 weeks or more, go to long stay programmes.
Students on short courses are placed in classes according to their level. Students may join existing classes. Our experienced teachers make sure this integration is smooth to provide an excellent learning environment for all students.

Course content
Interactive and focused classroom activities will give you the opportunity to practise grammatical structures and new vocabulary in authentic situations. You will receive personal attention and your teachers adapt the content of the course to suit the particular needs and interests of your group.
Different teachers have different styles of teaching, but the Lake School 'style of teaching' is dynamic and communicative. In class you will often work in pairs or small groups so you have the chance to speak as much English as possible. Teachers and students take their studies seriously and work very hard, but you will also have a lot of fun in class.
You will receive all the materials you need to use in class; but please bring a notebook with you. You will have homework every night and a revision test at the end of each week, which will help you monitor your own progress.
Achieving your goals
You will improve your understanding of written and spoken English. You will improve your pronunication and gain confidence in speaking, listening reading and writing. You will also develop a greater awareness of grammar structure, so you can communicate more fluently and effectively in English.
You will learn a lot about British culture and make friends from all over the world: our students are of all ages and nationalities.
*All students who are from an EC country or who have a student visa can work for up to 20 hours per week. We will arrange an interview with an employment agency if you wish. This way you can earn money and study at the same time. Non EC students cannot work if they are studying for 6 months or less.
