Lake School of English is announced 'Centre of Excellence'
Based on their British Council accreditation result; the Lake School of English is being featured in the EL Gazette April 2010 issue as a centre of excellence; the Lake School scored a total of six points of excellence, one of only eight British Council accredited centres in the UK to do so!
100% Cambridge exam success
Congratulations to all the students who passed the First Certificate, Cambridge Advanced or Cambridge Proficiency, and to their teachers for all the exam preparation. What a great start to 2010!

It's snowy, but hey . .
Lake School is open and warm. All the students and teachers are here, enjoying lessons which include the best stories on 'how I came to school today' and 'my outfit today', winter weather vocabulary such as 'slush', 'sleet', 'snowplough', and the occasional snowman building competition!
Makoto Tosa, former Lake School student plays rugby for Oxford
Congratulations to former Lake School student Makoto Tosa who "got a chance to impress" on the Rugby pitch, as the Oxford Mail stated on the 18th November 2009.
"Oxford start with the same back line that has shone against Saracens and Sale Sharks, while flankers Tosa Makoto and Jamie Gibson get a chance to impress."
Well done to Makoto, it's great to see he is putting his English to good use!

GO OXFORD
GO OXFORD is a brand new organization which provides a weekly programme for all international students from language schools in and around Oxford. With GO OXFORD you will meet new people from different countries and learn more about Oxford by taking part in all kinds of fun activities, such as: salsa dancing, bowling and skating. You can sign up with Joyce in the office at the Lake School. If you have any other questions about GO OXFORD Joyce will be happy to help you!
Birthday breakfast
On Tuesday 29th of September 2009 the school students and staff were treated to an amazing birthday breakfast. This birthday breakfast was offered by our student from Qatar, Henaif Al Athba. The croissants, mixed pastries and the huge birthday cake were provided by Maison Blanc. Everyone really enjoyed this delicious feast, and the whole school wants to thank Henaif for offering us this treat.
Welcome to our new staff member!
In September 2009 a new staff member joined our team. Joyce is a marketing student from a Dutch University and she will work for the following 5 months as a Marketing Assistant. If you have questions or if you need any help, Joyce is happy to help you!
The Lake School of English in Oxford is recruiting an enthusiastic English language teacher to start October 5th, 2009.
The contract is fixed term (6 months' maternity cover), with a possiblity to extend.
Candidates must be graduates, DELTA qualified native speakers of English, with a minimum of 4 years' recent teaching experience, and available for interview in the UK.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach 21 contact hours per week and to attend occasional social activities and regular academic meetings.
The Lake School directors are committed to ensuring that teaching in our organisation is a positive, interesting and enjoyable experience, with opportunities for professional development.
Teacher Refresher Courses July 2009
The Teacher Refresher Courses at the Oxford University Said Business School were a huge success. All the participants were really satisfied with the arrangements and the course. We would like to thank Janet, Jane, Jess and Catherine for teaching on this summer's Teacher Refresher courses.
Professional Development Courses
The Lake School is delighted that more of their courses have been approved for EU funding: English for Effective Communication at Work, Learning Curves: Making Use of New Technologies in English Language Teaching, and English as a Tool for Teaching in Adult Education.
Oxford FunRun
On Saturday 9th May 2009 the annual Oxford FunRun took place. The FunRun is organised by the Oxford Rotary Club and Student Event Activities. The purpose of the FunRun is to raise money for various charities. The competing schools have to enter a team of four runners and are competing for various trophies. The Lake School also entered a team and competed for the Quality English trophy. The members of the Running team were: Atsuhiro Kitamura, Jess Rayson, Olliver O'Sullivan and Chris van Rij. As it turned out Lake School had entered a very successful team because they were the best competing Quality English School and won the trophy!
They did it!
Carmel and Lucy both finished the London Marathon. They are feeling very sore, but proud of their achievement and the £2000 that they have raised for charity. Congratulations from everyone at the Lake School!
'Grade A' sponsor licence for Lake School
The Lake School has been licensed by the UK Border Agency to enrol international students under Tier 4 of the Points Based System for use when new visa regulations take effect on 31 March 2009.
The UKBA have produced an animation which shows a 'student' going through the application process for a General Student visa. It explains the points requirements, what evidence you need to provide with your application, biometrics and entering the UK through passport control. Watch it on You Tube!
Carmel and Lucy are running in the 2009 London Marathon!
Training is going (quite, fairly, reasonably) well! Lucy is running for the charity Shaw Trust and Carmel is running for Asthma UK.
To celebrate, on February 25th all Lake School students have free guest and raffle tickets to a 'Band Night' at the Jericho Tavern, organised by Lucy, showcasing the best of the Oxford music scene, with a chance to win some great prizes!

Janet, a guest Lake School teacher and teacher trainer posts her thoughts on ELT issues, shares some of her own lesson ideas and follows leading ELT specialists via their blogs. She also likes to write about life in the beautiful region of Abruzzo, in Italy.
Teacher development courses January 2009
Teachers of English from Argentina, Latvia, France, Turkey, Bulgaria, Italy, Romania, Poland, Brazil, Spain, Sweden and Finland have had a great time updating their teaching methodology and language awareness and visiting local Primary and Secondary schools. We miss you already!
Christmas coming up
All classes are preparing a Christmas play for Friday 12 December 2008, with their teachers they are planning games, songs and fun! Friday will be the last day of 2008 for the students, a day they will never forget!
Bowling

100% success in Cambridge exams 2008
Well done to all the students who took their CPE, CAE and FCE exams in June 2008. Everyone passed, so congratulations all round (including their teachers!)
Arrivederci Janet
After working at the Lake School for 26 years, our lovely Janet has left us to start a new life in Italy. Of course we are hoping to welcome her back to teach on special courses in the future . . . in fact in September 2008 and July 2009!

On a sunny Saterday, 10th of May 2008, the Lake School running team succesfully participated in the Oxford fun run. The 5-kilometre run was organized to raise money for various charities and took place at Oxford University Parks. Well done to teachers and students who took part!
IELTS examiner
Lake School teacher Kathryn Drea has just qualified as an IELTS oral examiner. IELTS measures your ability to communicate in English across all four language skills - listening, reading, writing and speaking - and is for people who intend to study or work where English is the language of communication. If you're thinking about taking the exam in Oxford, she can give you some great exam tips.
