Intensive General English for over 25s
English for work or pleasure in a mature atmosphere
These Intensive 2-week courses have fixed start dates in July and August. These courses are ideal for mature students who wish to refresh and update their English for improved career opportunities or for personal interest. Some weekly cultural, social and sporting activities are also included in your course.

Course content
Interactive and focused classroom activities will give you the opportunity to practise grammatical structures and new vocabulary in a relaxed, supportive environment. You will receive personal attention; your teachers plan their lessons carefully to suit the needs, interests and learning styles of their students, so they provide the right balance of skills, vocabulary and grammar.
Please note that all students are tested and interviewed on their first day. This course is run for a minimum of 6 students. If there are not enough mature students of the same level, we will offer you an Intensive General English course as an alternative.
Different teachers have different styles of teaching, but the Lake School 'style of teaching' is dynamic and communicative. In class you will often work in pairs or small groups so you have the chance to speak as much English as possible. Teachers and students take their studies seriously and work very hard, but you will also have a lot of fun in class.
You will receive all the materials you need to use in class; but please bring a notebook with you. You will have homework every night and a revision test at the end of each week, which will help you monitor your own progress.
At the end of your course, you will receive a detailed certificate of your proficiency in English showing your level as defined by the Common European Framework.
Achieving your goals
An intensive summer course will improve your all-round language ability and help you to communicate more fluently and effectively in English. You will improve your understanding of written and spoken English. You will improve your pronunciation and gain confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will also develop a greater awareness of grammar structure and vocabulary.
You will also learn a great deal about British culture and make friends and contacts from all over the world: studying with other mature students who have similar interests and reasons for learning English will help you make fast progress.
