Creative Teaching in the Secondary CLIL Classroom

Improve and extend your CLIL teaching techniques and language ability.

These intensive courses have regular fixed start dates during the year. They are eligible for EU funding with Erasmus+ grants until the end of 2020.  Contact us for help and support with your funding application.

These courses are ideal for teachers of secondary school students who would like to develop their CLIL teaching skills and make friends and contacts from other countries.

Language Level Upper Intermediate (CEFR Level B1) or above
Course Length 1 or 2 weeks

Course outline

  • creative ideas to make your classes more lively and interactive
  • practical activities for teaching challenging classes
  • language improvement to refresh and update your English
  • a visit to a local Secondary school (term dates permitting)
  • a guided historical tour of Oxford
  • a guided tour of an Oxford University college 
  • one social evening with tutors
  • WiFi internet access and computer facilities
  • refreshments: tea and coffee
  • end of course certificate outlining sessions attended
  • course materials
  • e-Learning Centre subscription for 1 year

All participants are asked to fill in a Pre-Course questionnaire. The course tutor plans the course to meet the special requirements of the group. The course content is outlined and discussed on the first morning, and is then adapted as appropriate.

In your free time

Groups on summer courses often choose to attend an outdoor Shakespeare production in Oxford Castle or an Oxford University College garden. Course participants at other times of year sometimes enjoy attending plays or concerts in theatres and music venues across the city.

Course tutors 

Participants experience a dynamic, interactive style of teaching and receive personal attention from friendly, approachable tutors who have substantial experience of teaching English as a foreign language and teacher training. Tutors integrate a wide range of online and off-line resources to create a stimulating, professional and supportive learning environment and adapt the content of the course to suit the needs and interests of the group, so that it is useful, relevant and enjoyable.

Erasmus+ is the EU programme for education, training, youth and sport opportunities across Europe. 

Lake School Professional Development Courses take place throughout the year and are eligible for EU funding with Erasmus+ grants.

Under the Erasmus+ programme, grants are provided to people who work in education in EU countries, as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Turkey and FYR Macedonia. 

You have to apply for an Erasmus+ grant through your school, organisation, training institute or university. You can't apply individually. 

Organisations such as teacher training colleges and university departments also ask us to build tailor-made courses for their teaching and non-teaching staff.
