Semi-Intensive General English
You make progress in English and make friends in Oxford: we make it easy
On this course, you study every morning from 9.15 until 1pm, so you are free to take a part-time job* or follow your own personal interests in the afternoon. Some weekly cultural, social and sporting activities are also included in your course.
Between September and June you can start almost every Monday of the year and study for a minimum of 10 weeks. If you want to study for less than 10 weeks, please go to short courses.
Students on long stay programmes are placed in classes according to their level and so may join existing classes. Our experienced teachers make sure this integration is smooth to provide a friendly, positive, classroom atmosphere for all students.

A flexible course offering a variety of study and work opportunities
Course Content
Interactive and focused classroom activities will give you the opportunity to practise grammatical structures and new vocabulary in a relaxed, supportive environment. You will receive personal attention and your teachers adapt the content of the course to suit the particular needs and interests of your group.
Different teachers have different styles of teaching, but the Lake School 'style of teaching' is dynamic and communicative. In class you will often work in pairs or small groups so you have the chance to speak as much English as possible. Teachers and students take their studies seriously and work very hard, but you will also have a lot of fun in class.
You will receive all the materials you need to use in class; but please bring a notebook with you. You will have homework every night and a revision test at the end of each week, which will help you monitor your own progress.
Achieving your goals
You will improve your understanding of written and spoken English. You will improve your pronunication and gain confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing. You will also develop a greater awareness of grammar structure and vocabulary, so you can communicate more fluently and effectively in English.
At the end of your course, you will receive a detailed certificate of your proficiency in English showing your level as defined by the Common European Framework, and a written report from your class tutor.
*All students who are from an EU country can work without restriction in the UK. Students who have a full General Student Visa can work for up to 10 hours per week. We can help you with looking for a job, if you wish, so you can earn money and study at the same time. Taking a part-time job can improve your future career opportunities.
Students who have a Student Visitor Visa are not permitted to work.
